Science, technology and innovation in the service of mankind and society
With more than 50 laboratories which host 2,000 PhD students, the Université Joseph Fourier has developed top level research and is involved in significant collaboration between national research organisations and large instrument organisations situated in the Grenoble area (European synchrotron radiation facility, Institut Laue Langevin).
The Université Joseph Fourier has developed top level research for mankind and society in 4 major areas: healthcare, computing and communication, the environment and future materials.

The Université Joseph Fourier has applied for various calls for projects from the "Invest in the Future" programme and has already enjoyed a great deal of success, as it has or is partnered with:
- 10 top ranking facilities (Equipex)
- 7 top ranking laboratories (Labex)
- 1 IRT (Institut de recherche technologique / Institute of Technological Research): Nanoelectronics
- 1 IEED (Institut d'excellence pour les énergies décarbonées / Top Ranking Institute for Low-Carbon Energy)
The UJF is also a partner of the GUI+ Grenoble excellence initiative, having been pre-selected during the first wave of calls for tender.
